Goat Curry from Ocho Rios, Jamaica
What is a Curry? Curry’s are sauce-based dishes that can vary in spice content and heat. This is a family-friendly recipe from Chef Benedicto is similar to a goat meat stew recipe using your favorite curry powder. Lamb stew meat can be substituted.

Ingredients
1 lb goat meat for stew
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1 garlic clove
2 medium onions sliced
2 bay leaves
2-3 tomatoes sliced (optional remove seeds)
2 Tablespoons Jamaican curry powder (or other curry powder)
2 cup chicken broth
2 medium potatoes chunked
1/2 cup carrots
Sugarcane vinegar or rice vinegar
1 teaspoon cumin
Crushed red pepper to taste
Sea salt to taste
Instructions
- Brown meat in 1 Tablespoon of oil
- Remove meat
- Add remainder of oil and sauté clove, garlic clove, bay leaves, and onions until transparent
- Add tomatoes and curry powder
- Simmer for approximately 10 minutes
- Add chicken broth, meat, potatoes, carrots, vinegar, cumin and crushed red pepper
- Cook approximately 30 minutes until potatoes and carrots are done
- Salt to taste
